OO GAUGE · HORNBY SETRACK · 6 × 4 FT
Starter oval on a 6 × 4 board
A 1st radius oval stretched with two double straights on each side. It is the simplest layout that still looks like a railway rather than a circle, and it leaves room on a 6 × 4 board to add sidings later.
- Board
- 6 × 4 ft · 1830 × 1220mm
- Track footprint
- 1441 × 771mm
- Space to spare
- 195mm each side
- Tightest curve
- 1st radius · 371mm
- Track pieces
- 12
Good to know
- The long straights give a train time to run at a steady speed before the next curve, which looks far better than a plain circle.
- The space inside the oval is big enough for a goods yard or station later, without moving any of this track.

Checked with the First Radius geometry engine: every joint meets, the track fits the board with the space shown, and no tracks overlap. Figures use Hornby's published setrack geometry; real track has a millimetre or two of play.
